European Sustainable Energy Week By Tom Published: January 29, 2008
As part of the European Sustainable Energy Week initiative (28 Jan-1 Feb 08) the American Institute for Roman Culture Architecture Program course in sustainable design, with Prof. Tom Rankin, is carrying out a week-long laboratory on Rome's Systems of Sustainability. Students are working in the design lab researching 5 themes essential to contemporary Rome: Energy, Water, Land, Materials and Transportation. Site visits throughout the city, including marginalized peripheral neighborhoods enrich the students' first-hand experience. At the end of the week a joint laboratory with students from the University of Rome Engineering Faculty will allow for cross-cultural exchange and information gathering. The final product of the week's work will be a multimedia document for the Institute's archives and distribution.

The AIRC has started creating a digital image archive using one of the most popular on-line photography sites, FlickR. We welcome AIRC program participants and supporters to take a look at the first images we have uploaded. If you have images of your own, especially current students and alumni, follow the link to join the group and we'll see that you get an invitation.
