HELPING HISTORY
The American Institute for Roman Culture is fulfilling its mission more than ever by addressing the lamentable realities facing tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Our decision to focus more on conservation and sustainability is born from several related experiences:
- field school excavation in Rome, Ostia Antica, and Abruzzo
- conservation work at the site Santa Maria Antica with WMF
- Unlisted 2011, 20012 heritage conferences
- Several talks at AUR-BSR, UMASS Amherst, Stanford U.
- Creation of Ostia Antica Conservation Project
- iPetition with Prof. Bernard Frischer (UVA) for (successfully) Protecting Hadrian's Villa from a projected garbage dump
- iPetition for preserving the Macrinus mausoleum "gladiator's tomb" site
- educational videos about Ostia Antica produced with Northeastern University
- educational videos about ongoing excavations in Rome and Italy produced with Fasti Online
