Fresh for 2018 we are offering a brand-new four-week course based in Rome, unique to the American Institute of Roman Culture which combines traditional AIRC specialisms along with new and modern approaches to learning.

Learn excavation history/archaeology methodology practice and theory from the experts with on-site exercises including drawing, measuring and the use of technology.

Discover the history of Rome with guided visits to major sites and museums including all major city collections and sites including Roman Forum, Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Capitoline Museums, Vatican Museums, Palazzo Massimo, Crypta Balbi, Markets of Trajan and more.

Explore further with enhanced site visits, such as the Domus Aurea, Baths of Caracalla (with virtual reality headsets), learning issues of site presentation and engagement through technology.

Gain insight about conservation methodology and active heritage projects in Rome with visits to labs and sites, accompanied with lectures by leading professors, art historians and heritage professionals.

Partake in extended field trips to understand Italic influences on the history of Rome:  Sperlonga/Terracina and Tarquinia/Cerveteri.

Space is limited but open to anyone with a desire to learn about Rome and Roman civilization - no prior knowledge of archaeology or Italian, or formal experience/qualifications is expected or required. 

Beyond the unique opportunity of learning new skills and knowledge, this program also offers the opportunity to live la dolce vita in Rome for four weeks. 

Engage with the contemporary city through unique experiences in gastronomy/cooking, modern art and architecture. Personal ‘down time’ in the evenings and at weekends also provides ample opportunity to explore the Eternal City and further afield easily (Pompeii and Herculaneum, Florence, Naples).
